In its second annual MAP (Mediterranean Annual Petroleum Exhibition and Conference) event, SPE Alexandria Chapter aims to give students and recent graduates a better understanding of the petroleum industry. While other petroleum based events in Egypt focus exclusively on the upstream sector of the industry (i.e. exploration and production), the sessions in MAP cover all the different stages that oil goes through including: exploration, drilling, extraction, production and refinement.
Target audience
Students, recent graduates and young professionals in the fields of Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering and Geography.
Aside from the main sessions, there will be talks given about technical subjects, such as the the Zohr Field and the role of women in the energy industry, as well as non-technical subjects such as interview skills and career development
During the exhibition, students and graduates will showcase their petroleum industry related projects, which they will then discuss with the attendees .
All the speakers giving the sessions in the event are important figures in the field of oil and gas or come from international petroleum companies such as Schlumberger, Halliburton and Weatherford. Some keynote speakers present in the event include: •Eng. Sherif Haddara, former Minister of Petroleum •Dr. Diabb Saad, Direct Drilling Manger at Halliburton •Mr. Samir, Country Manager at Rockhopper Egypt
There are going to be two competitions held in MAP, the Paper Contest and PetroBowl. The Paper Contest gives the chance for innovative undergraduates to present their scientific papers in front of a judging committee, with the first place winner receiving a summer internship at Schlumberger, and the second and third place winners receiving valuable gifts from our sponsors. Meanwhile in PetroBowl, two teams will compete to answer rapid fire questions about topics discussed in the sessions
